Where we are

The Learning support department is based in Cornwallis in C5. This is the building opposite the Sixth Form Centre and you will find our room upstairs at the end of the corridor.

Who we are

Ms Clarke (PG DipDyslexia and Literacy) is the Head of Department and the school’s SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).

Mrs Dexter (PG Cert SpLD) also teaches in Learning Support.

Our Department also includes teaching assistants Ms Channon, Mrs Charlesworth and Mrs Sileo who support specific pupils within their normal curriculum.

How We Work

Ms Clarke and Mrs Dexter see individual pupils from all Key Stages for lessons. These might happen weekly, once a fortnight or just occasionally. Students come for individual lessons to support their learning in other subjects.

Some students meet in small groups where they share similar needs.

Some pupils have an Educational Psychologist’s report to say that they are dyslexic or have another specific learning difficulty (SpLD) which needs support. Many students are referred by their teachers for short term help with literacy, spelling, organisation or study skills.

We try to timetable lessons to cause the least disruption possible.
