Economist: Target Two Point Zero |
||
August 2011 |
Target 2.0 is a national schools competition run by the Bank of England and the Times. It challenges A-Level Students to take the role of the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee, assess economic conditions and the outlook for inflation and tell a panel of judges what interest rate they would set to meet the Government's inflation target of 2.0% Each school enters a team of 4 students to present the case for a particular interest rate level based on the current inflationary pressures that they perceive exist in the UK Economy. After a 15 minute presentation to Bank officials teams are then asked questions by the officials about their understanding of the UK Economy. This is not for the faint hearted - but for those serious about their economics. Those considering studying Economics at a top university must give this serious consideration.
